Privacy policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
The short version
- Your sounds stay on your PC. We never get your audio, your sound files, or anything you say into your mic.
- Crash reports are on, so we can fix what breaks. They hold technical details, not who you are. Turn them off in Settings → Privacy.
- Usage stats are off unless you turn them on. They're counts with a random number for your PC, and Settings → Privacy shows exactly what was sent.
- No ads, no selling data, no tracking you around the web.
Who we are
Honkboard is made by Farsight LT, MB, a small company in Lithuania (company code 305686524, Laisvės al. 110-29, Kaunas), which is responsible for your data (the "controller" under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). "We" and "us" on this page mean the company. Questions, requests or worries: support@honkboard.com.
What Honkboard keeps on your PC
Your sounds, boards, hotkeys, settings and Honkboard's log files stay on your PC. We can't see them. Log files and crash files only leave your PC if you send them to us (see below). Uninstalling Honkboard removes the app; your sounds stay in their folder until you delete them.
What leaves your PC, and why
Crash and error reports (on unless you switch them off)
When Honkboard crashes or hits an error, it sends a report so we can find and fix the bug. A report holds:
- where in Honkboard's code it went wrong, and the error message;
- Honkboard's version, your Windows version, and the list of program files loaded into Honkboard at the time;
- the last lines of Honkboard's own log (what it was doing just before).
It never holds your audio or sound names. Your Windows user folder is replaced with %USERPROFILE%,
your PC's name isn't sent, and your IP address is not stored.
Why: our legitimate interest in keeping Honkboard working (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Your choice: switch off "Send crash reports" in Settings → Privacy at any time. Honkboard then asks you after a crash, and shows you the report before anything is sent.
Feedback you send us
When you use Send feedback, we get your message, your email address if you give one, and, if you leave "Include diagnostics" ticked, your audio device names, Windows version, Honkboard's settings and recent log lines. You can read the diagnostics before sending. Why: you asked us to look at something, and we use your email only to reply.
Usage stats (only if you say yes)
If you tick "Share anonymous usage stats", Honkboard sends a few events about how it's used: that it started or closed, setup steps, mic test results, how many sounds were played every few hours, which features were opened, which Pro limits were reached, and the problems it found and whether the fixes worked. Each event carries a random number for your PC (created when you say yes), Honkboard's version, your Windows build and, if you have Honkboard Pro, your Pro key's number (never the key itself).
Never your sounds or their names, file or folder names, device names or anything you type. IP addresses are discarded and we don't look up where you are.
Why: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). Your choice: switch it off in Settings → Privacy at any time. Your PC's random number is deleted and anything not yet sent is dropped. "See what we send" shows the events exactly as they went out, including that number, which you can send us to have your past stats deleted.
The party board
When you share a board, your friends open a link to our relay at honkboard.com. Through it, your friends get your name and the names, emojis and colours of the sounds on the boards you share; you get the names your friends type in, their presses, and any clips they send you (up to 15 seconds). The relay passes these along and doesn't keep them: clips are only stored in a temporary folder on your PC until you add or decline them, or close Honkboard. Your friends' browsers remember the name they typed, a random token and your name, on their own device.
Why: to run the party board you or your friend chose to use (GDPR Article 6(1)(b) for you, 6(1)(f) for friends who join). Your choice: sharing is off every time Honkboard starts, and you can stop it any time.
Updates, switches and Pro keys
- Update checks: a little after it starts and every 6 hours, Honkboard asks honkboard.com whether there's a new version, and downloads it from GitHub when there is. It also reads a short list of switches we use to turn a broken feature off, and Pro keys that were shared publicly. Nothing about you is sent beyond the request itself. Why: legitimate interest in keeping your copy safe and working.
- Pro keys are checked on your PC, without sending them anywhere.
Freesound
If you search Freesound in Honkboard, your searches go straight to freesound.org with your own Freesound key, under Freesound's privacy policy. They don't pass through us.
This website
honkboard.com sets no cookies and has no ads or trackers. Like every website, its host sees your IP address to answer requests.
Who handles the data for us
| Service | What for | Where the data is |
|---|---|---|
| Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) | Crash reports and feedback | EU (Germany) |
| PostHog, Inc. | Usage stats | EU |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | honkboard.com, the party relay, update checks | Cloudflare's worldwide network |
| GitHub, Inc. | Downloading updates | United States |
They may only use the data to provide their service to us. Where data can reach the United States, it's covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Crash reports and feedback: up to 90 days, then deleted automatically. Emails you exchange with us: as long as we need them to help you.
- Usage stats: up to 1 year.
- The party relay: nothing after a party ends. Cloudflare keeps technical request logs for a few days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable form, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Email support@honkboard.com; we answer within a month. Crash reports and usage stats don't say who you are, so tell us your report ID (shown after you send feedback) or your PC's number from "See what we send", and we'll find them.
If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate (vdai.lrv.lt) or the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Honkboard is for people aged 13 and over. If you're younger than the age at which your country lets you agree to this yourself (14 in Lithuania, between 13 and 16 elsewhere in the EU), ask a parent before turning on usage stats. If you think a child has sent us data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When Honkboard starts sending something new, we update this page and its date first. Big changes are also announced in the app before they take effect.
